Meet Anthony Campisi, 27 year old from Los Angeles, CA. Growing up his Mother ran a dive bar out in Azusa and his Father had a company that installed intercom equipment for Television/Special Events. At a young age he was infatuated with drawing, specifically landscapes and facial expressions.
In middle school he started a comic book series about two vigilante environmentalists, ‘Captain Earth’ and his sidekick ‘the Moon’, and would sell them to kids at school. Going into High School he started to look heavily into Street Art Culture and Punk Music as an identity, tagging and drumming gave me a sense of freedom and purpose.
"My first heartbreak combined with a rebellious worldview drove me towards artistic expression as a form of survival near the end of High School."
He then studied Film at Cal State Monterey Bay for two years. After two years of College he left and became a Tattoo Artist as a strategy. Working in a Tattoo Shop exposed him to using ink, which is now prevalent in most of his work. He is currently working as a Sound Engineer for IATSE, paints when possible, while also pursuing a filmmaking career.
"I want to communicate that togetherness is the most important thing when faced with our cold and empty Universe, some paintings may be more abstract than others but that is a recurring theme throughout my work. One day I hope my work can be used for political activism with positive change."
