My name is Anthony Campisi, I am 27 years old from Los Angeles, CA. Growing up my Mother ran a dive bar out in Azusa and my Father had a company that installed intercom equipment for Television/Special Events. At a young age I was infatuated with drawing, specifically landscapes and facial expressions.
In middle school I started a comic book series about two vigilante environmentalists, ‘Captain Earth’ and his sidekick ‘the Moon’, and I would sell them to kids at school. In High School I took heavily to Street Art Culture and Punk Music as an identity, tagging and drumming gave me a sense of freedom and purpose. My first heartbreak combined with a rebellious worldview drove me towards artistic expression as a form of survival near the end of High School.
I studied Film at Cal State Monterey Bay for two years, using most of my time connecting with nature and drawing any chance I could get. After two years of College I was over it and my exit strategy was to become a Tattoo Artists. Working in a Tattoo Shop exposed me to using ink, which became my favorite medium to paint with. I currently work as a Sound Engineer for IATSE, painting when I can, while also pursuing a filmmaking career. My main inspiration is Mother Nature, and if my art isn’t illustrating Nature it is commenting on things that either help or destroy it.
I want to communicate that togetherness is the most important thing when faced with our cold and empty Universe, some paintings may be more abstract than others but that is a recurring theme throughout my work. One day I hope my work can be used for political activism with positive change.
